Check the cause

  1. Use a voltmeter to verify the supply voltage to the transmission module, as low voltage is a common cause for module faults.

  2. Visually inspect the module's connectors (often located below the console) to ensure terminals are completely inserted into the housing and no terminals are exposed.

  3. Check if the locking tangs on the terminals are damaged, which can cause the terminal to back out and lose connection.

  4. Check for CAN network initialization errors or interrupted signals from the Autotronic transmission controller, which can mimic a dead module.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Module

Locate the transmission module. Depending on the model, this may require removing the outside cover panels of the side console or accessing the electronics box.

  2. Remove the Module

Disconnect the battery isolator/ground. Carefully unplug the harness connectors from the transmission module, ensuring you do not damage the locking tangs. Remove the mounting hardware and extract the module.

  3. Install the Replacement

Mount the new or remanufactured transmission module and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

  4. Calibration and Programming

A new transmission module will require programming and calibration using a specialized dealer diagnostic tool (like the electronic service tool or Wintest software). You must calibrate the transmission parameters, drive pedal, and clutch pedal.

  5. Clear Codes

Clear the stored DTCs from the system and test drive the tractor to ensure range changes and transmission functions operate correctly.
