04.X.FF

Massey Ferguson 04.X.FF – Transmission Module (TRANS): Internal Issue With Transmission Module (TRANS) / Issue With Transmission Module Calibrations Or Parameters (TRANS)

Issue description

Indicates a critical internal error within the transmission controller, often associated with an internal memory failure (RAM/EEPROM error) or a complete loss of the module's stored calibrations and operating parameters.

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage and inspect the main harness connectors to the Autotronic controller for corrosion or loose pins, as low supply voltage or a bad ground can cause temporary parameter loss.

  2. Check for accompanying transmission calibration codes such as 04.X.EE to 04.X.F3 or 04.X.FE.

  3. Attempt to clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool (AGCO EDT, Jaltest, or TEXA) by turning the key switch OFF, waiting for power down, and turning it back ON.

  4. Connect a diagnostic tool and attempt to push a software update or perform a full transmission calibration routine to see if the module accepts programming.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery isolator to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Module

Locate the Autotronic transmission controller (typically mounted under the right-hand cab floor or within the side console, depending on the model).

  3. Remove the Faulty Module

Carefully unplug the multi-pin CAN and power connectors from the module. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the Replacement

Mount the new or remanufactured Autotronic controller and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

  5. Program the Module

Use an AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or a compatible advanced aftermarket tool to flash the specific tractor's software onto the module.

  6. Perform Calibrations

Once programmed, perform the mandatory transmission calibration routines, which include the clutch pedal calibration, drive pedal calibration, and transmission turbo clutch calibration.
