Massey Ferguson 05.00.81 – Suspension Module (SUSPENSION): Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor. (SUSPENSION)

Issue description

The suspension control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal from the linear position sensor that monitors the height and travel of the suspended front axle.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector leading to the front axle position sensor for corrosion, dirt ingress, chafing, or loose connections.

  2. Voltage Testing: Use a multimeter to test the voltage at the sensor. Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground. Check the signal wire for an open circuit, a short to ground (-), or a short to +12V.

  3. Physical Mounting: Check the physical mounting of the sensor on the axle. If the sensor has come loose or the linkage is damaged by field debris, it may be reading outside of its normal physical travel limits, throwing a voltage error.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove the Sensor

Locate the front axle position sensor on the suspended front axle assembly. Disconnect the electrical harness and unbolt the faulty sensor.

  3. Install the New Sensor

Mount the replacement sensor, secure the hardware, and reconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Perform Calibration

After replacing the sensor, the suspension system must be calibrated. Activate the front axle suspension system using the cab controls, making it move from its lowest stop position to its highest stop position, and vice versa. The "suspended front axle" indicator light will flash during the calibration process. The light will stop flashing once calibration is complete. Note: If the controller remains in calibration mode, it means the stop values are outside the allowed tolerances or the suspension travel is lower than the minimum fixed value. If this happens, you must physically adjust the position sensor mounting more accurately and retry.
