Massey Ferguson 05.01.54 – TRANS1: Issue With Left Brake Pedal Switch Signal Dyna VT

Issue description

The transmission control system detects an irregular or missing signal from the left brake pedal switch. As a safety and operational precaution, the system restricts transmission functionality, and the '100% differential lock' is the only function still available.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the left brake pedal switch for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from actuating properly.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the left brake pedal switch for open circuits, shorts to ground, or corroded terminals.

  3. Ensure the brake pedals do not have excessive free travel. If the pedal is spongy, bleed the air from the foot brake circuit to prevent erratic switch engagement.

  4. Verify the signal voltage from the switch to the TRANS1 module to confirm if the switch is internally failed (open/shorted).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor battery before beginning the repair.

  2. Locate switch

Locate the left brake pedal switch on the brake linkage or mounting bracket under the dash/cab floor.

  3. Disconnect wiring

Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the faulty switch.

  4. Remove switch

Remove the old switch from the bracket.

  5. Clean and inspect

Clean the mounting contact area and inspect the wiring terminals for corrosion.

  6. Install and adjust switch

Install the new OEM switch and adjust it for the correct activation distance so that it engages properly when the pedal is depressed.

  7. Reconnect components

Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery.

  8. Test and clear code

Press the brake pedal to confirm the brake lights respond correctly, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 05.01.54 fault code from the TRANS1 module.
