Check the cause
Check the physical mounting of the front axle position sensor (X166) to ensure it hasn't been knocked loose or physically damaged by field debris.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the sensor for open circuits, short circuits to +12V, or short circuits to earth. Check connector pins for water, dirt, or corrosion, as moisture intrusion is a highly common cause of failure.
Verify that the sensor is receiving its proper +12V power supply and has a solid ground/earth connection.
Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to monitor the sensor's voltage output while manually moving the suspension to see if the voltage sweeps smoothly or drops out.
Repair steps
Power down and disconnect battery
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate sensor
Locate the front axle position sensor (X166) on the front axle suspension linkage.
Disconnect and clean harness
Carefully disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor. If moisture or corrosion is present in the harness connector, clean it thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and allow it to dry.
Remove faulty sensor
Unbolt and remove the faulty position sensor.
Install new sensor
Install the new position sensor. Handle it with care, as it is a precision electronic instrument.
Reconnect wiring harness
Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact and fully seated to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Reconnect battery and power on
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor.
Calibrate suspension
Run the front axle suspension calibration procedure using the tractor's dashboard interface or a dealer diagnostic tool. The system requires calibration to learn the new sensor's voltage limits.
