Massey Ferguson 05.01.84 – Suspension Module (SUSPENSION): Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor During Calibration

During calibration of the suspended front axle travel limits, the voltage signal returning from the front axle position sensor is out of the expected range (either too high, too low, or erratic).    Inspect the sensor housing and the wiring harness connector for moisture, water, dust, or mud.

   Inspect the electrical pins on the sensor and harness for corrosion caused by hydraulic fluid or road salt.

   Test the wiring harness leading to the suspension module for open circuits, short circuits to ground (-), or short circuits to +12V.

   Check the live voltage value of the sensor (component X166) using a diagnostic tool to see if it is stuck 'too high' or 'too low' prior to initiating calibration.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the front axle position sensor mounted on the front axle suspension linkage.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the wiring harness from the sensor. Handle with care, as these are precision electronic instruments.

   Remove

   Unbolt and remove the faulty position sensor from the axle assembly.

   Clean and Prep

   Thoroughly clean the mounting area and the wiring harness connector. Ensure the connector is completely dry and free of debris to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Install

   Mount the new front axle position sensor and plug it directly into the existing wiring harness, ensuring the weather seal is seated properly.

   Recalibrate

   You must perform the front axle suspension calibration procedure using the tractor's dashboard interface or a dealer diagnostic tool. The system must learn the voltage parameters of the new sensor for the error code to clear and for the suspension/auto-steer to function properly.
