Massey Ferguson 05.02.53 – TRANS1: Issue With Diff Lock Solenoid Circuit Dyna VT (TRANS1)
Issue description
The transmission control system has detected an electrical irregularity—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power—in the circuit responsible for actuating the differential lock solenoid on the Dyna VT continuously variable transmission.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading from the TRANS1 module to the differential lock solenoid on the transmission block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points
Disconnect the solenoid and check the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose terminals
Use a multimeter to check the circuit for continuity, ensuring there is no open circuit or short to ground/power between the TCU and the solenoid
Measure the resistance across the diff lock solenoid coil to verify it is not internally shorted or open
Repair steps
Retrieve and Verify
Connect a specialized diagnostic tool (such as the Massey Ferguson EST) to retrieve the active 05.02.53 code and confirm the fault is currently present.
Access the Solenoid
Locate the PTO / Diff Lock Solenoid Valve assembly on the transmission valve block.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring fault, repair the broken wire or replace the damaged connector pigtail.
Replace the Solenoid (If Faulty)
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, disconnect the electrical plug, remove the retaining fastener, and swap out the faulty Diff Lock Solenoid Valve for a new one.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery/harness and use the diagnostic tool to clear the 05.02.53 code from the TRANS1 module.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and engage the differential lock to ensure the system operates correctly and the code does not return.
