Massey Ferguson 05.02.81 – Suspension Module / Autotronic 5: Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor. (SUSPENSION)

The control module is receiving an irregular, out-of-range (too high or too low), or missing electrical voltage signal from the sensor responsible for monitoring the height and angle of the suspended front axle. When this occurs, the electronic suspension system cannot determine the axle's position, resulting in the suspension reverting to a non-adjustable or manual mode.

   Check system voltage at the battery and alternator; supply voltage dropping below 9.5V can cause the suspension system to disable itself and throw false sensor codes.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front axle position sensor (component X166) for open circuits, short circuits to +12V, or short circuits to ground.

   Check for moisture intrusion or corrosion at the sensor connector, ensuring connections are clean, dry, and properly sealed.

   Clear active fault codes, start the vehicle, and operate it on rough terrain for about 5 minutes to see if the fault returns, which isolates the issue to the sensor or its direct wiring to the Vehicle Load Centre (VLC).

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, and disconnect the battery to protect the Autotronic 5 module from voltage spikes.

   Removal

   Locate the front axle position sensor on the front axle suspension assembly. Disconnect the electronic wiring harness. Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor.

   Installation

   Install the new sensor. Handle with care, as these are precision electronic instruments. Secure the mounting bolts.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather-tight seal is intact to prevent future moisture intrusion. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   You must calibrate the suspended front axle after installing a new sensor. Using the tractor's diagnostic interface or dashboard sequence, run the 'Calibrate the suspended front axle' routine to teach the Autotronic 5 module the new sensor's specific voltage limits.
