05.02.83

Massey Ferguson 05.02.83 – Suspension Module (Dyna VT) or Autotronic 5: Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor During Calibration (SUSPENSION)

Issue description

During the electronic calibration of the front axle suspension, the signal voltage from the suspended front axle position sensor (X166) is registering as too low or out of the acceptable range. The system cannot successfully learn the upper and lower travel limits of the axle.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Autotronic 5 / Suspension ECU and the X166 sensor for open circuits, short circuits to ground, or short circuits to +12V.

  2. Verify that the sensor is securely mounted and that its mechanical linkage to the axle is intact, not bent, broken, or disconnected.

  3. Ensure there are no mechanical bindings or hydraulic issues preventing the front axle from physically reaching its maximum high and low limits during calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring/Linkage

If any wiring damage or linkage binding was found during the diagnostic checks, repair it and attempt to recalibrate.

  2. Replace the Sensor

If the wiring and mechanical travel are verified as good, the internal potentiometer of the X166 sensor has likely failed. Remove the old sensor and install the replacement.

  3. Recalibrate the Suspension

Activate the front axle suspension system manually several times, making it move from its lowest position to its highest position and vice versa to purge the hydraulics and verify travel. Initiate the electronic calibration procedure via the tractor's dash/terminal. The controller will learn the new stop values.
