Check the cause

  1. Check the differential lock button on the side pillar for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to its neutral position.

  2. Access the back of the switch and inspect the electrical connector for loose connections, pushed-out pins, or corrosion.

  3. Trace the wiring from the side pillar switch down toward the Transmission ECU to check for chafed wires, breaks, or shorts to ground.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the switch itself, verifying proper continuity when engaged and open circuit when released.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully remove the side pillar trim/bezel inside the cab to access the rear of the switch panel.

  3. Disconnect the Harness

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the faulty differential lock button.

  4. Remove the Switch

Depress the retaining clips on the sides of the switch body and push it out of the side pillar panel.

  5. Install the New Part

Push the new differential lock switch into the panel until the retaining clips snap into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the side pillar trim panel.

  8. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 05.03.51 DTC from the Transmission ECU memory.

  9. Test

Start the tractor and test the differential lock engagement to ensure the signal is now being read correctly by the Dyna VT transmission.
