Massey Ferguson 05.03.83 – Suspension Module (Autotronic 5): Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor During Calibration (SUSPENSION)

Issue description

This code indicates that the voltage signal from the suspended front axle position sensor (X166) is outside the acceptable high or low range during the system's calibration routine. The controller cannot complete the calibration because the sensor's stop values are outside allowed tolerances, or the suspension travel detected is lower than the minimum fixed value.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the front axle position sensor (X166) and its linkage for physical damage, ensuring it is securely mounted.

  2. Inspect the sensor's wiring harness and connectors for moisture intrusion, corrosion from hydraulic fluid or road salt, and ensure they are properly sealed.

  3. Manually activate the front axle suspension system to move it from the lowest to the highest position, checking for physical restrictions or hydraulic leaks.

Repair steps

  1. Sensor Adjustment/Replacement

If the sensor is faulty or damaged, replace it. If it is intact, adjust the position sensor mounting accurately so that the physical stop values fall within the allowed electronic tolerances.

  2. Seal Connections

When installing a new sensor, ensure the wiring harness connections are clean and properly sealed against moisture.

  3. Initiate Calibration

A calibration procedure is strictly required after adjusting or replacing the sensor.

  4. Perform Calibration Routine

Hold the front axle suspension button until the 'suspended front axle' indicator light begins to flash, indicating the start of the calibration procedure. Press and hold the button until the suspension reaches the absolute top position, then release. Press the down/off button until the suspension reaches the absolute bottom position, then release. The system will then set itself between the stops. The indicator light will stop flashing once calibration is successfully completed.

  5. Verify Calibration

If the controller remains in calibration mode (light keeps flashing), the stop values are still outside the allowed tolerances or the suspension travel is too low. You must readjust the position sensor more accurately and repeat the calibration.
