Massey Ferguson 05.X.33 – TRANS1 (or HITCH): Issue With 4wd Solenoid Circuit

The control module has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power) in the circuit responsible for actuating the 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) engagement solenoid valve.

   Inspect the wiring harness running between the TRANS1 module and the 4WD solenoid valve (connector X5) for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points.

   Disconnect the X5 connector at the solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

   Using a multimeter, test the wiring harness for continuity from the transmission controller to the solenoid, verifying there is no short to ground or short to voltage in the signal wire.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the 4WD solenoid coil. An open loop or near zero ohms indicates the coil has failed and must be replaced.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery isolator to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the 4WD solenoid valve on the transmission/hydraulic valve block (refer to the specific model's hydraulic diagram for the exact block location).

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector (X5) from the 4WD solenoid.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, splice in a new section of wire or replace the connector pigtail using proper weather-sealed heat shrink connectors.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or clip holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off. (If the mechanical valve cartridge is also leaking or stuck, unthread the cartridge from the valve block and install a new one, ensuring O-rings are lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid).

   Reassembly

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it. Reconnect the X5 electrical connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery isolator. Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard dash menu) to clear the stored 05.X.33 / T5133 fault codes.

8. 8

   Test

   Start the tractor and test the 4WD engagement via the cab switch to ensure the system operates correctly and the code does not return.
