05.X.51

Massey Ferguson 05.X.51 – Transmission TCU (TRANS1 or TRANS) / EXT Lite transmission controller: Issue With Signal From Diff Lock Button On Side Pillar Dyna VT

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting a "Signal error" from the differential lock switch (designated as component X136 in the wiring diagrams) located on the B-post/side pillar. This means the controller is receiving an invalid, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal when the button is pressed or resting, preventing the differential lock from engaging or disengaging properly.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the differential lock switch on the B-post (side pillar) control panel to see if the button is physically sticking, jammed, or broken.

  2. Carefully remove the side pillar trim to access the back of the switch and inspect the electrical connector for loose pins, corrosion, or backed-out wires.

  3. Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter to test it for continuity, verifying that the circuit opens and closes cleanly when the button is pressed and released.

  4. Check the wiring harness between the switch (X136) and the EXT Lite transmission controller for open circuits, high resistance, or shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry or unscrew the B-post (side pillar) trim panel inside the cab to access the rear of the switch cluster.

  3. Remove the Faulty Switch

Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty differential lock switch. Depress the retaining tabs (or remove the retaining nut) to push the switch out of the panel.

  4. Install the New Switch

Snap the new differential lock switch into the side pillar panel.

  5. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector into the new switch, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  6. Reassemble

Reinstall the side pillar trim panel.

  7. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, connect your diagnostic tool, and clear the stored 05.X.51 / T5151 fault code. Start the tractor and test both the manual and auto functions of the differential lock to confirm the repair.
