Issue description

Electrical circuit malfunction—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or abnormal resistance—in the wiring harness or the solenoid coil responsible for hydraulically engaging the tractor's differential lock.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1/Hitch controller and the differential lock solenoid for rubbed wires, corrosion, or loose pins at the connectors.

  2. Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the coil pins to check for an open coil (infinite resistance) or a short to ground.

  3. With the tractor running or in diagnostic mode, engage the differential lock switch in the cab and verify that the controller is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid connector.

  4. Ensure the differential lock button on the side pillar or armrest is functioning and sending the correct CAN message to the controller.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Valve

    The PTO/Differential Lock valve assembly is typically mounted externally on top of the rear frame transmission housing.

  2. Prep the Machine

    Safely park the tractor, turn off the engine, relieve any residual hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical connector from the differential lock solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut or fastener at the end of the hydraulic valve stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the cartridge. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic circuit to replace just the electrical coil).

  5. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  6. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

  7. Clear Codes & Test

    Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's instrument cluster display to clear the 05.X.53 fault code. Test the differential lock engagement to ensure the repair is successful.
