Massey Ferguson 06.0.06 – HITCH: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch)
Issue description
The control unit has detected an electrical irregularity in the circuit responsible for the Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a failed solenoid coil. When this occurs, the PTO may hesitate, fail to engage, or stay engaged when switched off.

Check the cause
Inspect the PTO solenoid electrical connector for dirt, corrosion, or loose pins. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission housing for rub points, breaks, or shorts to ground.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the solenoid coil to ensure it is not internally open or shorted.
With the tractor and key turned off, disconnect the coil and quickly touch 12 volts across the terminals. Listen for an audible 'click' to confirm the valve is mechanically actuating.
Ensure the hydraulic fluid is clean and at the proper level. Dirty or low fluid can cause premature solenoid failure or prevent the valve from operating correctly even if the electrical circuit is intact.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.
Ensure the tractor is safely parked and hydraulic pressure is relieved before beginning work.
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

Locate the PTO solenoid valve.
It typically mounts directly to the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Carefully unplug the wiring harness from the faulty valve.
Unbolt and carefully remove the faulty solenoid valve from the housing.
Remove the mounting hardware and extract the valve.
Clean the mounting surface thoroughly.
Ensure no dirt or debris enters the open hydraulic ports.
Install the new solenoid valve and tighten the mounting bolts.
Ensure any O-rings or seals are properly seated before tightening.
Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid.
Plug the wiring harness back into the new valve.
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the PTO engagement.
Test from the cab to confirm smooth operation and ensure the fault code has cleared.
