Massey Ferguson 06.00.06 – HITCH or TRANS1: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch) / Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

The control module has detected an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or voltage irregularity) in the circuit that supplies power to the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid valve. When this code is active, the PTO may fail to engage, hesitate, or fail to disengage properly.

   Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and condition, as low or heavily contaminated fluid can cause pressure drops that mimic solenoid engagement issues.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO solenoid (typically on the transmission housing or top of the hitch valve area) for chafed wires, vibration damage, or loose pins.

   Disconnect the solenoid and check for moisture, dust, or corrosion inside the connector.

   Test the solenoid coil resistance (ohms) with a multimeter to ensure it isn't shorted or open. Briefly apply 12 volts directly to the coil to listen for an audible 'click' indicating mechanical actuation.

   Verify that the PTO switch in the cab is functioning and check all relevant transmission/PTO fuses and relays.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, relieve hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the PTO solenoid on the transmission housing to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

   Removal

   Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unthread the entire hydraulic cartridge valve from the housing.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Thread the new valve into the housing (or slide the new coil onto the existing stem) and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Testing

   Reconnect the battery, top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost, start the tractor, and test the PTO engagement from the cab to ensure smooth operation and that the code has cleared.
