Massey Ferguson 06.00.08 – TRANS1 or HITCH: Engine Speed Dropped Too Much During PTO Engagement. Anti Stall Function / The Engine RPM Has Dropped Too Much When The PTO Was Engaged.
Issue description
The Anti-Stall function monitors engine RPM under load. If the engine speed drops too drastically (typically below 650 RPM) when the PTO clutch is engaged, the controller intervenes to protect the engine from stalling. The system will log this code and may automatically drop the transmission into neutral or disengage the PTO.

Check the cause
Disconnect the implement from the PTO stub shaft and engage the PTO bare to rule out a jammed implement or one requiring too much startup torque (mechanical overload cause).
If the engine is bogging down easily (engine performance cause), check for fuel starvation by inspecting the fuel filters, fuel lift pump, and air filter.
Use Massey Ferguson's Wintest diagnostic software to monitor live data for the Engine Speed Sensor and the PTO Speed Sensor, ensuring neither signal drops out intermittently during engagement (sensor failure cause).
Check the wiring harness leading to the PTO speed sensor and the transmission input speed sensor for rub points or shorts to ground.
Repair steps
Address Engine Power
If the engine is genuinely bogging down, replace the primary and secondary fuel filters and bleed the fuel system.
Recalibrate PTO Engagement
If the tractor is mechanically sound but the PTO clutch engages too aggressively (slamming on and dragging the engine down), use the dealer diagnostic tool to recalibrate the PTO clutch engagement modulation for a softer start.
Replace Faulty Sensors
If Wintest shows signal loss, locate the PTO speed sensor at the rear housing near the PTO clutch pack. Disconnect the electrical connector and clean the area. Remove the retaining bolt and pull the sensor out. Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean hydraulic/transmission oil. Install the new sensor, torque the retaining bolt, and reconnect the harness. Note: Massey Ferguson Service Bulletin TRAC 43/08 explicitly states that technicians must test sensors via Wintest before replacement.
Clear Codes
Clear the DTC 06.00.08 from the TRANS1/HITCH module and test-run the PTO under a normal load to verify the fix.
