Massey Ferguson 06.00.09 – Hitch Control Module or Transmission Module 1 (TRANS1): Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch) / PTO Switch Is On But The PTO Is Not Turning
Issue description
The control module has detected an electrical fault in the Power Take-Off (PTO) control circuit, or it has recognized a mismatch where the operator has engaged the PTO switch in the cab, but the PTO output shaft speed sensor detects no rotation.

Check the cause
Monitor the PTO switch signal and PTO output speed sensor data via a diagnostic scan tool to verify the module is receiving the ON command and checking for shaft rotation
Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1/Hitch module and the PTO solenoid valve for damaged wires, chafing, or corroded connectors causing an open or short circuit
Test the PTO solenoid valve coil for continuity and proper resistance (a shorted or open coil will prevent the valve from opening)
Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition, as low or heavily contaminated fluid can prevent the PTO clutch from engaging properly or cause the solenoid valve to stick
Repair steps
Park and secure tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Relieve system pressure
Ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.
Locate the solenoid
Find the PTO solenoid valve, which typically mounts directly to the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system.
Disconnect and inspect connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid and inspect the harness side for any dirt or corrosion. Clean if necessary.
Remove faulty solenoid
Remove the retaining hardware and carefully extract the faulty solenoid valve.
Install new solenoid
Install the new solenoid valve. Ensure that all O-rings and seals are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid prior to insertion.
Secure valve and reconnect harness
Secure the valve with the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reconnect battery and test
Reconnect the battery, verify the hydraulic fluid is at the proper level (top off if fluid was lost during the swap), and test the PTO engagement from the cab to confirm the repair.
