Massey Ferguson 06.00.10 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting an irregular, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the inductive sensor responsible for monitoring the rotational speed of the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) output shaft.

Check the cause

  1. Clean the sensor connector thoroughly and check the wiring harness for breaks, chafing, or moisture ingress

  2. Inspect the internal tone wheel (which the sensor reads) for damage, missing teeth, or debris buildup

  3. Ensure there is proper clearance between the sensor tip and the tone wheel

  4. Test the sensor with the PTO engaged at different speeds using a diagnostic tool to verify if the readings are accurate, intermittent, or completely dead

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

The PTO speed sensor is located at the rear lower part of the axle housing, near the PTO shaft hub.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor.

  3. Remove

Remove the retaining screw/nut holding the sensor in place. Carefully extract the old sensor from the housing.

  4. Clean

Inspect the mounting hole and clean away any dirt or debris to ensure the new sensor seats correctly.

  5. Install

Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor to prevent tearing. Insert the new PTO speed sensor into the axle housing and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical wiring harness back into the sensor.

  7. Calibrate/Clear

Clear the 06.00.10 fault code from the TRANS1 module using a diagnostic tool. Engage the PTO and verify that the speed is registering correctly without throwing a new code.
