Massey Ferguson 06.00.18 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal From PTO 1000 Button Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The system is detecting an irregular, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the PTO 1000 RPM engagement button. This typically indicates a failure within the switch itself, a wiring harness issue (open or short circuit), or a communication error between the switch and the controller.

Check the cause

  1. Check the PTO 1000 button on the armrest/side console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from making a clean contact.

  2. Access the back of the PTO switch and inspect the 3-pin connector for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture.

  3. Using a multimeter, verify that the switch is sending the correct voltage signal to the TRANS1 module when toggled.

  4. Test the wiring harness between the switch and the TRANS1 controller for continuity or shorts to ground.

  5. Use Massey Ferguson diagnostic software (e.g., EDT/Wintest) to monitor the live state of the PTO 1000 button. If the software does not register the button press but the wiring is good, the switch is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand console or multifunction armrest where the PTO switches are housed.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the faulty PTO 1000 switch.

  4. Remove

Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward through the console bezel to remove it.

  5. Install

Push the new OEM switch down into the bezel until the retaining tabs click into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the switch, ensuring it seats firmly.

  7. Reassemble

    Reinstall the console trim panel.

  8. Test & Clear

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.00.18 fault code. Start the tractor and test the PTO 1000 engagement to ensure the code does not return.
