Massey Ferguson 06.00.1C – TRANS1: Issue With Voltage To 540 PTO Speed Solenoid Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission control system has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power—on the circuit responsible for powering the solenoid that engages the 540 RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) speed.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the TRANS1 controller to the PTO solenoid valve block on the rear transmission housing for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose connector pins.

   Use a multimeter to check the 540 PTO solenoid circuit for continuity, short-to-ground, and short-to-power.

   Measure the resistance across the 540 PTO speed solenoid pins. An out-of-spec reading (infinite resistance/open or zero resistance/shorted) confirms a failed solenoid coil.

   Ensure the transmission oil level is correct and that the low-pressure auxiliary circuit (which supplies the PTO clutch and solenoids) is operating at the specified ~18 bar.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Solenoid Block

   Locate the PTO solenoid control valve block on the transmission backend. Note: Depending on the specific model and tire size, access to the solenoid bank can be extremely tight. It may be necessary to remove a rear wheel to gain adequate leverage to crack the retaining bolts loose.

   Replace the Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty 540 PTO speed solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts, extract the old solenoid valve, and install the new OEM replacement. Torque bolts to OEM specifications and reconnect the harness.

   Perform PTO Calibration

   According to the ML260 Transmission service manual, a calibration procedure must be performed whenever a PTO solenoid valve is changed. Apply the hand brake (or engage ParkLock). Place the Power Control lever in the neutral position. Select the PTO speed (540 rpm). Navigate to the CAL1 screen on the tractor's display and execute the calibration routine.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 06.00.1C DTC from the TRANS1 module and test PTO operation.
