Massey Ferguson 06.00.1E – HITCH: Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch)
Issue description
The tractor's onboard diagnostic (OBD) system has detected an electrical irregularity, such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range voltage, within the Power Take-Off (PTO) control circuit.

Check the cause
Scan for related codes related to the PTO speed sensors, transmission, or CAN BUS communication to pinpoint the exact location of the circuit failure
Inspect the in-cab PTO engagement switch and any fender-mounted external PTO buttons for physical damage, sticking, or moisture ingress
Trace the wiring harness from the Hitch/Transmission controller to the PTO solenoid valve, looking for chafed wires, broken connections, or corroded pins at the connectors
Disconnect the PTO solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the coil (an open circuit or dead short indicates a failed solenoid coil)
Verify that the controller is sending the correct voltage (usually 12V) to the solenoid when the PTO is commanded ON
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the PTO control solenoid valve on the hydraulic valve block (typically found at the rear of the tractor near the PTO housing/rear axle).
Clean and Inspect
Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid. Clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector or wiring is damaged, splice in a new pigtail connector.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
If the solenoid coil failed the multimeter test, remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the valve stem and slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (If the hydraulic cartridge itself is leaking or stuck, the hydraulic system must be depressurized before unthreading the cartridge).
Install the New Part
Slide the new OEM PTO solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid. Reconnect the tractor's battery.
Clear Codes and Test
Connect a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 06.00.1E fault code. Start the tractor and engage the PTO to verify that the circuit is functioning correctly and the code does not return.
