Massey Ferguson 06.00.49 – TRANS2: There Is A Speed Reading from The PTO Speed Sensor That Does Not Match The Speed Selected Switch Dyna 6 (TRANS2)

Issue description

This code triggers when the physical speed reading reported by the PTO speed sensor does not align with the expected speed based on the position of the PTO speed selector switch, indicating either PTO clutch slip or a failure in the sensor/wiring circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Use Wintest diagnostic software to monitor live values of the PTO speed sensor while activated (value must equal engine speed)

  2. Test the PTO speed sensor using a multimeter to check the stationary resistance value

  3. Verify the wiring harness between the sensor and the TRANS2 module for faults

  4. If electrical circuits are sound, check for mechanical PTO clutch slip

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect a diagnostic laptop with Wintest to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Compare speed readings

Engage the PTO and compare the PTO speed sensor reading to the engine speed to confirm the mismatch.

  3. Locate sensor

If the reading drops out or is erratic, locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear housing.

  4. Measure resistance

Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and use a multimeter to measure the sensor's stationary resistance.

  5. Inspect wiring

Inspect the connector pins and wiring harness for corrosion, breaks, or shorts.

  6. Replace sensor

If the sensor fails the resistance test, unthread the old sensor and install a replacement PTO speed sensor.

  7. Investigate clutch

If the sensor tests good, investigate the PTO clutch pack for mechanical slipping.

  8. Clear DTCs and test

Clear the DTCs from the TRANS2 module and test-run the PTO under load to ensure the code does not return.
