Massey Ferguson 06.00.4A – Dyna 6 (TRANS2): There Is A Speed Reading from The PTO Speed Sensor That Does Not Match The Speed Selected Switch Dyna 6 (TRANS2)

This fault indicates a mismatch between the physical speed of the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft (as read by the PTO speed sensor) and the speed mode selected by the operator via the PTO selector switch (e.g., 540, 1000, or ECO modes). The controller detects that the shaft is spinning at an RPM that contradicts the expected output for the engaged gear/switch position.

   Perform a sensor resistance test: Disconnect the PTO speed sensor and measure resistance across the pins at room temperature (should be 450 Ohms +/- 20 Ohms).

   Inspect the wiring harness from the PTO speed sensor to the TRANS2 module for chafed wires, corrosion in connector pins, or loose connections.

   Test the PTO speed selector switch in the cab to ensure it has not failed or developed high resistance, which can send a false signal.

   Inspect the tone wheel and sensor gap: Ensure the sensor is properly seated, gap adjustment is correct, and the internal tone wheel is not damaged or covered in metallic debris.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental engagement.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear transmission/lift cover housing near the PTO output shaft.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission housing. Remove the retaining bolt and carefully pull the sensor out of the housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission fluid. Insert the sensor into the housing and secure it with the retaining bolt.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu) to clear the 06.00.4A fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor, engage the PTO in different speed selections (e.g., 540 and 1000), and verify that the PTO speed registers correctly on the dash without triggering the fault code.
