Massey Ferguson 06.00.50 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission control unit is receiving erratic, implausible, or missing speed signals from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor while the tractor is running or the PTO is engaged. This can cause the PTO to disengage, fail to engage, or operate erratically.

   Locate the Rear PTO Speed Sensor on the rear transmission/PTO housing and inspect the sensor body and wiring harness for physical damage, chafing, or melting.

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and check for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Use a multimeter to check for continuity and ensure there are no shorts to ground in the wiring harness between the sensor connector and the TRANS1 controller.

   Remove the sensor and inspect the magnetic tip. Clean off any excessive metal shavings that can distort the signal and re-test.

   If available, use an oscilloscope or advanced multimeter to back-probe the sensor and verify it generates a clean, consistent pulse signal when the PTO shaft is rotated.

   Park and secure tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.

   Clean sensor area

   Clean the area around the Rear PTO Speed Sensor on the rear housing thoroughly to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission fluid.

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove retaining bolt

   Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place.

   Remove old sensor

   Carefully pull the old sensor out of the housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission/hydraulic oil may weep out.

   Lubricate O-ring

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission oil to prevent tearing during installation.

   Insert new sensor

   Insert the new sensor into the housing, ensuring it seats fully.

   Install retaining bolt

   Install and tighten the retaining bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as the sensor body is often plastic).

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks securely.

    Clear code and test

    Connect a diagnostic tool to the tractor, clear the 06.00.50 fault code from the TRANS1 module, and test-run the PTO to verify the speed registers correctly on the dash/terminal.
