Massey Ferguson 06.00.60 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal Values From PTO Clutch Speed Sensor And PTO Output Speed Sensor DYNA VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller detects a discrepancy of at least 12% to 20% between the readings of the PTO clutch speed sensor (X15) and the PTO output shaft speed sensor (X16), indicating an electrical failure or mechanical PTO clutch slippage.

  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)

Check the cause

  1. Check the supply voltage and signal integrity for both the X15 (PTO clutch speed) and X16 (PTO output shaft speed) sensors (electrical cause).

  2. Inspect the wiring harnesses connecting the TRANS1 module to the X15 and X16 sensors for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Verify that the PTO speed solenoid valves (X3 and X4) are correctly connected and are not mechanically locked in the deactivated position.

  4. If electrical circuits and sensors are functioning properly, check for mechanical slippage (e.g., slipping PTO clutch disc, failure to separate, or PTO brake failing to engage).

Repair steps

  1. Access the Sensors

Locate the X15 and X16 speed sensors on the Dyna-VT transmission housing.

  2. Test/Replace Sensors

Using a multimeter, test the resistance and output of the sensors. If either sensor is dead or sending erratic signals, remove the retaining bolt, pull the faulty sensor from the housing, and install a new OEM speed sensor.

  3. Address Mechanical Faults

If the sensors and wiring are confirmed good, the transmission will require a mechanical teardown of the PTO clutch pack to replace worn clutch discs that are causing the 12%+ slippage.

  4. Clear Codes

After replacing the sensor or repairing the clutch, use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.00.60 DTC from the TRANS1 module and run a PTO calibration/test to ensure the speeds match.
