Massey Ferguson 06.00.E2 – HITCH: Issue With PTO Speed Too Fast In ECO

The system detects the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft is spinning faster than the allowable safety threshold for the ECO PTO mode. This is typically caused by either operator error (running the engine RPM too high for the selected ECO mode) or a faulty speed sensor providing an erroneously high reading to the controller.

   Verify Operator Usage: Ensure the tractor is being operated correctly. ECO PTO is designed to achieve target PTO speeds at lower engine RPMs. If the operator throttles the engine too high while in ECO mode, the system will throw this code to prevent implement overspeeding.

   Inspect Wiring and Connections: Check the wiring harness leading to the PTO/Engine speed sensor for chafing, breaks, or corrosion. Ensure the connector is securely seated.

   Test the Speed Sensor: Use a multimeter or diagnostic tool to monitor the live data from the speed sensor. If the sensor reads erratic or impossibly high speeds while the PTO is disengaged or running at a low RPM, the sensor is likely faulty.

   Locate the Sensor

   Identify the speed sensor on the transmission/PTO housing (often shared with the SISU engine speed monitoring system).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor out of the housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor (if applicable) and insert it into the housing. Secure it with the retaining bolt.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the tractor, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.00.E2 DTC from the HITCH module. Test the PTO in ECO mode to ensure the code does not return.
