Massey Ferguson 06.00.E4 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

This indicates an electrical fault—likely an open circuit, short circuit, or voltage irregularity—in the power supply circuit that activates the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. When this code is active, the transmission controller cannot properly command the hydraulic flow required to engage or disengage the rear PTO clutch.

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and condition. Low or heavily contaminated fluid can cause erratic hydraulic pressure and premature solenoid failure.

  2. Locate the PTO solenoid on the transmission housing and inspect the electrical connector for dirt, moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  3. Trace the wiring harness back to the TRANS1 module. Look for chafed wires or pinch points that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the solenoid coil and check if the connector is receiving the proper reference voltage from the TRANS1 module when the PTO switch is activated.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Ensure all hydraulic system pressure is relieved before opening the circuit.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate the PTO solenoid control valve. It is typically mounted on the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines route to the PTO clutch pack.

  4. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

  5. Removal

Unbolt the retaining hardware and carefully pull the solenoid valve assembly out of the transmission housing. Have a catch pan ready for residual hydraulic fluid.

  6. Clean & Prep

Clean the mounting surface on the transmission to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  7. Installation

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new valve and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  8. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical plug, reconnect the battery, and top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost.

  9. Testing

Start the tractor, clear the 06.00.E4 fault code via the diagnostic menu, and test the PTO engagement/disengagement from the cab to ensure smooth operation.
