Massey Ferguson 06.00.E5 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The onboard diagnostic system has detected that the transmission module is receiving incorrect, missing, or implausible speed readings from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor. The system compares the PTO speed sensor value to the engine speed to detect PTO clutch slip; if the values do not align or are missing, this code is triggered.

   Static Resistance Test: Turn the ignition off and disconnect the PTO speed sensor. Measure the resistance across the sensor terminals at room temperature. The correct resistance should be 450 ohms +/- 20 ohms.

   Magnetic Pickup Test: Remove the sensor from the tractor. Put an ohmmeter across the terminals and wave a steel screwdriver blade back and forth near the magnetic pickup. If the resistance fluctuates, the internal sensor pickup is functioning.

   Wiring Harness Check: If the sensor's resistance is correct, the issue is likely in the wiring. Check the sensor connector for damage. Perform a continuity test on the earth wire and the signal wire back to the TRANS1 module, and check for short circuits.

   Clearance Check: The problem may simply be that the sensor is located too close to or too far away from the internal gear. If the sensor tests good, proceed to the adjustment procedure below.

   Remove old sensor and clean port

   Remove the old sensor (if replacing) and clean the mounting port.

   Apply Loctite

   Apply a small amount of Loctite 5922 to the threads of the new or existing sensor.

   Screw in sensor

   Manually screw the sensor in fully until it bottoms out against the internal gear.

   Set air gap

   Carefully unscrew the sensor by exactly 3/4 of a turn to set the correct air gap.

   Tighten counter-nut

   Hold the sensor in place and tighten the counter-nut to approximately 6 Nm.

   Reconnect and test

   Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the DTC codes using a diagnostic tool, and test the PTO engagement.
