Massey Ferguson 06.00.E6 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)
Issue description
The transmission control unit is receiving erratic, missing, or implausible speed signals from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor. This can prevent the PTO from engaging properly, cause it to drop out during operation, or disable automated engine speed matching functions.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO speed sensor for chafing, rodent damage, or breaks
Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals
Ensure the sensor is securely threaded into the PTO housing, as a loose sensor increases the air gap and weakens the signal
Test the wiring continuity from the sensor connector back to the TRANS1 module harness to rule out a broken wire
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts or module spikes.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the rear PTO speed sensor, which is threaded into the rear transmission/PTO housing near the PTO output shaft.
Remove the Sensor
Unplug the electrical connector. Using a wrench, unthread the faulty sensor from the housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission/hydraulic fluid may weep from the port.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new OEM sensor into the housing. (Note: Some sensors have a specific thread length—e.g., 32mm or 40mm—ensure the replacement matches the original to prevent it from striking internal gears). Tighten to OEM torque specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 06.00.E6 code from the TRANS1 module.
Test
Start the tractor, engage the rear PTO, and verify that the PTO speed registers correctly on the dash/Datatronic screen without throwing a fault.
