Massey Ferguson 06.00.E8 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

Indicates an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) in the circuit supplying voltage to the solenoid valve that controls the hydraulic flow for the rear PTO clutch engagement. When this code is active, the PTO may hesitate, fail to engage entirely, or stay engaged when switched off.

Check the cause

  1. Check system voltage to ensure the battery and charging system are providing adequate voltage, as low voltage can trigger solenoid power supply faults

  2. Inspect the wiring harness from the TRANS1 module to the PTO solenoid for rub points, damaged insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit

  3. Check the electrical connector at the solenoid for corrosion, loose pins, or moisture ingress

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance using a multimeter to verify it is within specification (an open or shorted coil requires replacement)

  5. Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid to verify it is clean and at the proper level, as dirty or low fluid can cause the valve to stick

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Park the tractor on flat ground, lower any implements, and turn off the engine.

  2. Depressurize and Disconnect

Relieve any residual hydraulic system pressure and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Locate the Solenoid

Find the PTO hydraulic solenoid valve, which typically mounts directly to the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system.

  4. Remove the Faulty Valve

Unplug the electrical connector. Unbolt and carefully remove the old solenoid valve from the transmission block.

  5. Install the New Valve

Ensure the mounting surface is clean. Install the new solenoid valve, ensuring all O-rings and quality seals are properly seated to prevent hydraulic leaks.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid and reconnect the battery.

  7. Test Operation

Start the tractor, check the transmission fluid level (top up if any was lost during the swap), and test the PTO engagement from the cab to ensure smooth operation and verify the fault code has cleared.
