Massey Ferguson 06.01.04 – TRANS1: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch) / Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

The transmission controller has detected an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or an overcurrent condition—in the circuit that supplies power to the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) On/Off solenoid valve.

   Inspect the main wiring harness and connectors between the TRANS1 module and the rear PTO solenoid for frayed wires, rubbed-through insulation, or pulled/corroded connector pins

   Use a multimeter to test the PTO solenoid power circuit for a short to ground, a short to 12V, or an open circuit

   Measure the internal resistance of the rear PTO On/Off solenoid coil to check if it is internally shorted or reads out of specification (open)

   Safety First

   Turn off the tractor, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear PTO On/Off solenoid valve block, typically mounted on the rear transmission/axle housing.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the PTO solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Unscrew the retaining nut or mounting bolts holding the solenoid coil/valve assembly. Have a shop rag or small container ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may leak out.

   Install the New Part

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new PTO solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new solenoid and tighten the retaining hardware to OEM torque specs.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place. Reconnect the battery.

8. 8

   Clear and Test

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.01.04 fault code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and test the rear PTO engagement to confirm the repair.
