Massey Ferguson 06.01.08 – HITCH or TRANS1: Engine Speed Dropped Too Much During PTO Engagement / Anti Stall Function
Issue description
When the Power Take-Off (PTO) is engaged, the tractor's electronic management system monitors the engine RPM. If the RPM drops below a critical threshold during the clutch engagement phase, the tractor's Anti-Stall Function intervenes and automatically disengages the PTO to prevent the engine from stalling.

Check the cause
Implement Load Test: Disconnect the implement from the PTO shaft and attempt to engage the PTO bare. If the code does not appear, the implement is either jammed, too heavy for the current starting RPM, or requires a less aggressive engagement setting.
Engine Performance: Ensure the engine is producing adequate power. Check for clogged fuel filters or air filters that might cause the engine to bog down under sudden load.
Engagement RPM: Ensure the operator is engaging the PTO at a sufficient engine RPM to handle the rotational mass of the attached implement.
Electrical Testing: If the code triggers with no load attached, test the PTO solenoid valve coil resistance (standard MF transmission/PTO solenoids typically read around 10 Ohms).
Sensor Verification: Check the wiring to the PTO clutch speed sensor, as erratic speed readings can falsely trigger the anti-stall software.
Repair steps
Clear Blockages
If an implement is attached, clear any material that may be jamming the implement's driveline.
Adjust Engagement Settings
If your tractor terminal allows for PTO engagement modulation adjustments, set it to a softer/slower engagement profile for heavy implements.
Inspect the Solenoid
Locate the PTO engagement solenoid valve on the transmission/hydraulic valve block. Check the electrical connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.
Replace the Solenoid
If the solenoid is sticking open/closed or fails a resistance test, depressurize the hydraulic system, remove the retaining nut, slide off the old coil, and install the new solenoid valve/coil kit.
Recalibrate
After replacing hydraulic or electrical PTO components, use the dealer diagnostic tool to perform a PTO clutch calibration so the TRANS1/HITCH module relearns the clutch fill times.
