Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the back of the PTO 540 switch for loose pins, corrosion, or bare wires

  2. Verify that the fuses supplying power to the cab console and PTO control circuit are intact

  3. Remove the PTO 540 switch and test it using a multimeter set to Ohms (Ω). A healthy switch should show continuity (typically between 0 and 1.5 ohms) when the button is pressed. If it reads open (infinite resistance) while pressed, the internal contacts have failed

  4. With the tractor key ON (engine OFF), check the power wire at the switch connector to ensure the switch is receiving the correct reference voltage from the TRANS1 module

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the armrest/side console trim panel where the PTO 540 button is mounted.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty PTO switch.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward through the console bezel to remove it.

  5. Install

Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console until the retaining clips lock into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the switch, ensuring it clicks securely.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the console trim panel and reconnect the battery.

  8. Clear and Test

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.01.13 fault code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and test the PTO 540 engagement to verify the repair.
