06.01.18

Massey Ferguson 06.01.18 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal From PTO 1000 Button Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an irregular, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal coming from the button/switch used to engage the 1000 RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) speed.

Applies to these machines

  • 7720S
  • 7724S
  • 7716
  • 7720
  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the PTO 1000 button (both in the cab and the external fender-mounted button, if equipped) for physical damage, sticking, or heavy dirt/debris.

  2. Remove the switch and use a multimeter set to Ohms to test internal resistance (should show continuity when pressed and open circuit when released). Note: Some technicians recommend testing the switch under a small electrical load, as a switch might pass a basic continuity test but fail under actual operating loads.

  3. Disconnect the switch and test the wiring harness leading back to the TRANS1 module for bare wires, corrosion at the connector pins, or a short-to-ground.

  4. Verify that the tractor's charging system is delivering stable DC voltage (13.0V to 14.5V), as voltage drops can cause the transmission module to misinterpret switch signals.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the side console trim panel or armrest housing where the PTO 1000 rocker switch is mounted.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty PTO switch.

  4. Remove the Switch

Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward/outward through the mounting hole.

  5. Install the New Part

Push the new PTO 1000 switch into the panel until the retaining clips snap securely into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch. Ensure the connector is seated firmly and the locking tab clicks.

  7. Reassemble and Test

Reinstall the console trim panel, reconnect the battery, and turn on the tractor. Clear the 06.01.18 fault code using a diagnostic tool, then test the PTO 1000 engagement to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • PTO 1000 Speed Rocker Switch / PTO Engagement Button

Verify the exact part number with a Massey Ferguson dealer using the tractor's specific VIN/Serial number, as cab configurations dictate the exact switch style.
