Massey Ferguson 06.01.41 – TRANS1: Rear PTO Switch Signal Issue

The transmission controller is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement switch. The system disables the PTO as a safety precaution when it cannot reliably determine the switch's position.

   Inspect the in-cab rear PTO switch and the external fender PTO switch (if equipped) for physical damage, sticking buttons, or packed dirt/debris preventing full travel.

   Access the back of the switch and inspect the electrical connector for loose pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper continuity, verifying that the circuit opens and closes cleanly when toggled.

   Trace the wiring harness between the PTO switch and the TRANS1 module, looking for chafing, pinched wires, shorts to ground, or open circuits.

   Use a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or Massey Ferguson Wintest) to monitor the live state of the PTO switch and verify if the TRANS1 module registers the state change.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty PTO switch (either on the right-hand armrest/console or the external rear fender).

   Remove the Panel

   Carefully unclip or unscrew the switch retaining bezel or console panel to access the rear of the switch.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it out through the front of the panel.

   Install the New Part

   Snap the new OEM switch into the panel until it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness connector into the new switch and reassemble the console or fender panel.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 06.01.41 fault code using a diagnostic scanner or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu.

    Test

    Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement to verify the repair is successful.
