Massey Ferguson 06.01.45 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission controller is receiving erratic, missing, or out-of-range signals from the magnetic speed sensor that monitors the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft. The tractor's computer compares the PTO speed to the engine speed to detect PTO clutch slip and enable automated features. If the values do not match expected parameters or the signal drops out, this code is triggered.

   Use Wintest diagnostic software to monitor the PTO speed sensor values (reading must equal engine speed when PTO is activated)

   Test the sensor using a multimeter to check the resistance value when the tractor is stationary

   Verify the wiring harness for power, open circuits, or shorts to ground

   Remove the sensor to inspect for metal debris, clean the internal tone wheel, and check the air gap

   Locate the rear PTO speed sensor

   The sensor is threaded into the rear lower part of the axle housing near the PTO shaft hub.

   Disconnect the electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the tractor's wiring harness.

   Remove the faulty sensor

   Unthread and remove the faulty 40mm magnetic speed sensor from its mount.

   Clean the mounting port and tone wheel

   Thoroughly clean the mounting port and the internal tone wheel to remove any dust, oil mist, or metallic debris.

   Install the new sensor

   Thread the new replacement sensor into the mount.

   Ensure proper air gap

   Ensure the proper air gap/spacing relative to the tone wheel is achieved, as the 40mm length ensures correct positioning.

   Reconnect the wiring harness

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

   Verify the repair

   Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and cycle it at different speeds to verify that the display shows steady, accurate RPM readings and the fault code clears.
