Massey Ferguson 06.01.4A – Transmission Controller 2 (TRANS2): There Is A Speed Reading from The PTO Speed Sensor That Does Not Match The Speed Selected Switch.

When the PTO is activated, the tractor's computer compares the physical rotational speed of the PTO shaft (read by the inductive PTO speed sensor) against the expected speed based on engine RPM and the position of the PTO Speed Selector Switch. A mismatch indicates either that the PTO clutch is slipping, the speed sensor is failing/reading erratically, or the selector switch is sending an incorrect signal.

   Connect Wintest diagnostic software and monitor PTO speed sensor values to ensure they correlate with engine speed when engaged

   Test the PTO speed sensor resistance with a multimeter; stationary resistance should be between 2700 and 3300 ohms

   Inspect the PTO speed sensor for physical cracks

   Check sensor mounting depth; if the sensor drops signal but tests fine, the factory O-ring may be holding it out too far

   Verify the wiring harness between the sensor, PTO selector switch, and TRANS2 module for open circuits, shorts to ground, or corrosion

   Park and disconnect

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear axle/PTO housing. Access can be tight depending on the implement hitch setup.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the sensor.

   Remove sensor

   Unthread and remove the old PTO speed sensor from the housing.

   Prepare new sensor

   Prepare the new sensor. (Note: If you are applying the service bulletin fix for depth issues, remove the O-ring and apply thread tape; otherwise, lubricate the new O-ring).

   Install sensor

   Thread the new sensor into the housing and tighten it securely.

   Reconnect

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the tractor's battery.

   Calibrate

   Anytime a PTO speed sensor is replaced, you must use the diagnostic software to sync/configure the PTO and engine speeds so the TRANS2 controller learns the new sensor's baseline.
