Massey Ferguson 06.01.4B – HITCH: Issue With PTO Slipping (Hitch)

The system logs this code when it detects a mismatch between the engine speed and the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) output speed. Specifically, the PTO shaft is turning slower than it should be when engaged, indicating that the PTO clutch pack is physically slipping under load, or that the PTO speed sensor is failing and sending erratic/incorrect speed readings to the computer.

   Check the PTO Speed Inductive Sensor: Inspect the sensor wiring for damage and verify its output.

   Check Hydraulic Fluid and Pressure: Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level and filter condition.

   Test PTO Valve Pressure: Check the hydraulic pressure reaching the PTO clutch pack. Low pressure caused by a weak pump, a faulty PTO engagement solenoid/spool valve, or internal leaks will cause a perfectly good clutch to slip.

   Mechanical Inspection: If hydraulic pressure is within spec and the speed sensor is functioning correctly, the PTO clutch friction plates are likely worn out or burnt and require replacement.

   Locate the PTO speed inductive sensor

   If the PTO Speed Sensor is faulty: Locate the PTO speed inductive sensor on the rear transmission/PTO housing.

   Disconnect the electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector.

   Remove the old sensor

   Remove the retaining bolt and pull the old sensor out.

   Install the new sensor

   Install the new sensor (OEM 4372671M1), secure the bolt, and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the fault codes and test PTO operation.

   Drain fluid

   If the PTO Clutch Pack is slipping (Mechanical Failure): Drain the transmission/hydraulic fluid from the rear end.

   Access PTO clutch pack

   Depending on the specific model's configuration, remove the rear PTO housing or perform a rear tractor split to access the PTO clutch pack assembly.

   Remove and disassemble clutch

   Remove the PTO clutch assembly and disassemble the clutch pack.

   Inspect and replace worn parts

   Inspect the clutch hub and replace the worn friction discs (clutch plates), pressure plates, and internal seals.

    Reassemble clutch pack

    Reassemble the PTO clutch pack using a complete clutch kit to ensure all mating surfaces are fresh and can handle the torque.

    Reinstall housing

    Reinstall the PTO housing/rejoin the tractor halves.

    Refill fluid

    Refill the system with clean, OEM-specified hydraulic fluid.

    Perform clutch calibration

    Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's dash display to perform a clutch calibration to ensure smooth engagement and clear the 06.01.4B fault code.
