Issue description
The tractor's computer is receiving a signal from the PTO speed sensor indicating that the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft is spinning faster than physically possible based on the current engine RPM and the selected PTO gear ratio. This usually points to an erratic, high-frequency signal caused by a failing inductive speed sensor, wiring interference, or a faulty engine speed reading.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO speed sensor at the rear of the transmission for chafed wires, moisture in the connector, or loose pins (a short or bad ground can cause erratic overspeed spikes).
Remove the PTO speed sensor and inspect the magnetic/inductive tip for metal shavings or heavy debris from the transmission/PTO clutch that could distort the reading.
Test the resistance of the PTO speed sensor using a multimeter (some sensors, like 4359947M1, should read approximately 540 Ohms).
Verify engine speed data by ensuring the tractor's tachometer is reading engine RPM correctly (a failing engine speed sensor reading artificially low will cause a false PTO overspeed calculation).
Repair steps
Prepare tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the handbrake, and turn off the engine.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the tractor's battery to protect the electronic modules.
Locate sensor
Locate the PTO speed inductive sensor. It is threaded into the rear transmission/PTO housing near the PTO output shaft.
Disconnect wiring
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove old sensor
Unthread the old sensor from the housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic/transmission fluid may weep from the port.
Install new sensor
Thread the new OEM inductive speed sensor into the housing. (Ensure any required O-rings or spacing shims match the old unit so the sensor sits at the correct depth).
Reconnect wiring
Reconnect the wiring harness securely.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Clear fault code
Use the tractor's dash interface or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the stored 06.01.4C DTC code.
