06.01.A1

Massey Ferguson 06.01.A1 – TRANS1: Issue With Message On The CAN BUS From PTO Switch DYNA VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

This code indicates a communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN BUS). Specifically, the transmission controller is failing to receive a valid signal or message from the Power Take-Off (PTO) command switch. This prevents the system from knowing whether the operator is requesting the PTO to be engaged or disengaged, usually resulting in the PTO being disabled for safety.

Check the cause

  1. Check the PTO switch on the armrest/side console for physical damage, stickiness, or being stuck between positions.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connector behind the PTO switch for backed-out pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

  3. Measure CAN High and CAN Low lines at the switch connector for continuity back to the TRANS1 module (resistance should be approximately 60 ohms with the battery disconnected).

  4. Connect a diagnostic tool (Massey Ferguson EDT/Wintest) to check if the TRANS1 module is registering other CAN BUS errors, which would indicate a broader network or module failure rather than just the switch.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts and CAN network spikes.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand armrest or side console where the yellow PTO command switch is mounted.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the bottom of the PTO switch.

  4. Remove the Switch

Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward through the console bezel to remove it.

  5. Install the New Part

Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console bezel until the retaining clips lock into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely.

  7. Reassemble

    Reinstall the console trim panel.

  8. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.01.A1 fault code. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement to ensure the CAN message is now being received by the TRANS1 module.
