Massey Ferguson 06.01.B0 – TRANS1: Issue With Message On The CAN BUS From PTO Switch DYNA VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission control module is failing to receive the expected communication signals (messages) over the CAN (Controller Area Network) bus from the Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement switch.

Check the cause

  1. Check battery voltage; low voltage (below 11.5V) or a failing alternator can cause erratic CAN bus communication errors.

  2. Inspect main power fuses and specific fuses related to the transmission controller (TRANS1) and cab controls/armrest.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running from the PTO switch to the TRANS1 module for physical damage, chafing, or corrosion.

  4. Test the PTO switch for power and ground, and verify CAN High and CAN Low signals at the switch connector.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the tractor's electrical or CAN bus systems to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully remove the trim panels on the armrest or side console to access the underside of the PTO switch.

  3. Disconnect and Inspect

Unplug the electrical connector from the PTO switch. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner if any corrosion is present.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the wiring harness is damaged (e.g., from mice or chafing), splice and repair the damaged CAN bus wires, ensuring proper shielding is maintained.

  5. Replace the Switch

If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the diagnostic test, install a new OEM PTO switch.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the switch, reassemble the console panels, and reconnect the battery. Use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.01.B0 DTC from the TRANS1 module. Test the PTO engagement to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • PTO Engagement Switch (Dyna-VT)

Reference the specific tractor model's serial number in the AGCO/Massey Ferguson parts catalog to obtain the exact switch.

  • CAN bus wiring harness pigtail/connector

If the original connector is melted or heavily corroded.

  • Standard automotive fuses
