Massey Ferguson 06.01.E7 – TRANS1 (Transmission Module 1): Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short, or voltage drop) in the power supply to the solenoid valve that controls the hydraulic flow for the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch engagement. On Dyna-6 transmissions, it can also indicate a software issue.

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and cleanliness, as dirty or low fluid can cause the PTO solenoid to stick or fail prematurely.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the TRANS1 module and the rear PTO solenoid for rubbed wires, corrosion inside the connector, or loose pins.

  3. Test the solenoid coil resistance using a multimeter to ensure it is not shorted out and is receiving consistent activation force.

  4. Check with a dealer for available software updates or flashes for the TRANS1 module, as this code can sometimes indicate a software issue.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve all hydraulic system pressure before loosening any hydraulic components.

  3. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid on the transmission housing.

  4. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

  5. Remove

Unbolt and carefully remove the faulty solenoid valve from the transmission block.

  6. Install

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid and install it into the housing. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery, top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost, start the tractor, and test the PTO engagement from the cab to ensure smooth operation.
