Massey Ferguson 06.01.E8 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT

The transmission control system has detected an electrical irregularity—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or out-of-range voltage/amperage—on the power supply circuit that activates the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO solenoid on the transmission housing for chafed wires, melted insulation, or physical damage

   Disconnect the solenoid plug and check for water ingress, dirt, or corroded pins

   Use a multimeter to test the power supply wire from the TRANS1 module to the solenoid connector for continuity, and ensure it is not shorted to ground

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO solenoid coil (an open circuit or dead short indicates the coil has failed internally)

   Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid for contamination, which can cause the mechanical valve spool to stick and burn out the electrical solenoid

   Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Relieve Pressure

   Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the transmission and PTO circuits.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Locate the rear PTO solenoid control valve on the transmission block and unplug the electrical harness connector.

   Remove the Valve

   Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid valve. Have a catch pan ready, as some residual hydraulic fluid will leak out.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the mounting surface on the transmission housing to ensure no dirt or debris enters the hydraulic system.

   Install the New Part

   Install the new solenoid valve, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated. Bolt it down to OEM torque specs.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in. Ensure it clicks into place securely. Reconnect the battery.

   Filter Maintenance

   It is highly recommended to change the hydraulic filter at this time, as contamination is a leading cause of premature valve sticking and solenoid failure.

   Test

   Start the tractor, engage the PTO to verify operation, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.01.E8 code from the TRANS1 module.
