Massey Ferguson 06.02.01 – TRANS1: Rear PTO Switch Signal Issue

The transmission controller is receiving an implausible, missing, or continuous (stuck) signal from the rear PTO engagement switch. The system will flag this error if a momentary switch is stuck closed (often for longer than 30 seconds), if there is a short to +12V, or if there is a short across the switch wires.

   Check the in-cab rear PTO push button to ensure it is not physically jammed or stuck in the depressed position.

   If equipped with external fender-mounted PTO switches, inspect them for physical damage, mud/debris packing, or moisture ingress, which frequently causes shorts.

   Use a multimeter to test the continuity of the PTO switch. It should read as an open circuit when at rest and show continuity only when pressed.

   Test the wiring harness between the PTO switch and the TRANS1 controller. Look for a short to +12V, a short to ground, or a short across the switch wires (especially on the fender switch harness).

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor, remove the ignition key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry up the console panel housing the in-cab PTO switch, or remove the retaining screws for the external fender switch housing, depending on which switch failed the diagnostic check.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. Inspect the connector pins for green corrosion or bent terminals. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Replace the Switch

   If the switch failed the multimeter continuity test, discard it. Snap the new OEM replacement switch into the console or fender housing.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the wiring harness back into the new switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the console panel or fender housing. Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the ignition on. Use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.01 DTC from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and test the rear PTO engagement to confirm the repair.
