Massey Ferguson 06.02.04 – HITCH / TRANS1: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch) / Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT / Dyna 6 (TRANS1)

An electrical fault in the circuit that controls the rear Power Take-Off (PTO), indicating an irregularity such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power in the wiring harness or the internal coil of the rear PTO engagement solenoid.

   Locate the rear PTO solenoid on the transmission valve block and visually inspect the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the PTO solenoid and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO solenoid coil (an infinite reading indicates an internal open circuit, while 0 ohms indicates a dead short).

   Turn the key ON and probe the harness side of the connector to ensure the controller is sending the correct reference voltage/power supply when the PTO switch is engaged. Check for a short to ground on the power supply wire.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Solenoid

   Locate the PTO solenoid valve assembly on the rear transmission housing/spool block. (Note: On some models, access may be tight and require removing a rear wheel for proper leverage).

   Remove the Faulty Component

   Disconnect the electrical plug. If only the coil is faulty and is available separately, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the coil off. If replacing the entire solenoid valve, clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system, then unbolt/unscrew the valve cartridge from the block.

   Install the New Part

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Thread it into the block and tighten to OEM torque specs. If installing just a coil, slide it over the stem and secure the retaining nut.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.04 DTC from the HITCH or TRANS1 module. Start the tractor and engage the PTO to verify the repair.
