Massey Ferguson 06.02.06 – HITCH or TRANS1: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch) / Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna 6

The onboard diagnostic system has detected an electrical irregularity in the circuit that supplies power to the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid. The underlying condition is typically an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, a short circuit to 12V power on the harness, or a failed solenoid coil where the resistance has dropped too low.

   Test the tractor's battery circuit output, as low voltage or weak charging can trigger false solenoid circuit codes.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO solenoid for rub points, damaged insulation, disconnected plugs, or short circuits (to 12V or ground).

   Check external multi-pin plugs (especially those passing through the cab floor) for dirt, corrosion, or poor connections.

   Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the PTO solenoid coil to check for an internal failure (open circuit or low resistance).

   Briefly apply 12 volts directly to the disconnected coil to see if it mechanically clicks.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the PTO is disengaged.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear PTO control valve/solenoid block, typically found on the transmission housing or rear lift cover area.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the PTO solenoid. If the connector is heavily soiled, clean it with contact cleaner and check if the fault clears before proceeding.

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   If the coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or fastener holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new OEM solenoid coil/electrovalve into place and secure the fastener. (Note: Newer replacement coils often have the electrical connector built directly into the coil body, replacing older pigtail-wire designs).

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Use a specialized diagnostic tool to clear the DTC codes from the HITCH/TRANS1 module, or cycle the battery power.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor and engage the PTO to ensure the code does not return and the PTO operates smoothly.
