06.02.10

Massey Ferguson 06.02.10 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller is not receiving a valid or expected signal from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) output speed sensor. This can prevent the PTO from engaging properly, cause erratic PTO speed readings, or trigger safety lockouts.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear transmission housing and inspect the sensor body for physical damage.

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the sensor back to the TRANS1 module, looking for chafed wires, rodent damage, or melted insulation.

  3. Disconnect the sensor plug and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins inside the connector.

  4. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the sensor (if it is an inductive type) or verify the supply voltage and ground (if it is a Hall-effect sensor).

  5. Remove the sensor and check the tip for a buildup of metallic shavings, which can distort the magnetic signal.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Identify the rear PTO output speed sensor on the rear transmission housing (Dyna-VT).

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Removal

Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the housing. Carefully pull the sensor straight out. (Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission/hydraulic fluid may weep from the port).

  5. Clean

Wipe the mounting surface and the bore clean to ensure the new sensor seats perfectly flat.

  6. Installation

Insert the new replacement sensor (ensure it is the correct 40mm length variant for your specific model). Install and tighten the retaining bolt to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  7. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks and locks securely.

  8. Clear Codes & Test

Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.10 fault code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and verify that the PTO speed registers correctly on the dash/terminal and the code does not return.
