Massey Ferguson 06.02.18 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal From PTO 1000 Button Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the 1000 RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement button. This is typically caused by a failed switch contact, a wiring harness issue (open or short circuit), or a disconnected plug.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the PTO 1000 button on the console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from fully depressing or returning to its neutral position.

  2. Access the back of the PTO switch and inspect the electrical connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or loose wires.

  3. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test the switch's internal contacts, verifying that the circuit properly opens and closes when the button is pressed.

  4. Test the wiring harness between the PTO switch connector and the TRANS1 module for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or remove the trim panel on the right-hand armrest/console where the PTO speed selection buttons are housed.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty PTO 1000 switch.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push the switch up and out of the console bezel.

  5. Install

Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console until the retaining clips lock it into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the wiring harness connector into the new switch, ensuring it clicks securely.

  7. Reassemble

    Reinstall the console trim panel.

  8. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu) to clear the 06.02.18 fault code.

  9. Test

Start the tractor and engage the 1000 RPM PTO to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
