Massey Ferguson 06.02.1E – Hitch Controller / ECU: Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch)

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or an out-of-range voltage—within the Power Take-Off (PTO) electrical control circuit.

   Check Fuses & Power Supply: Verify the main power fuses and specific PTO circuit fuses in the fuse panel to ensure the circuit is receiving power.

   Inspect the PTO Switches: Check the cab rocker switch or external fender switch for momentary contact issues, physical damage, or a switch that is stuck closed.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the Hitch ECU to the PTO switches and down to the PTO solenoid. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or corroded connectors (especially near the rear axle where debris can damage wiring).

   Test the PTO Solenoid: Disconnect the PTO solenoid and use a multimeter to check the coil's resistance. Check the connector for 12V power when the PTO switch is engaged.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the tractor's battery before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits.

   Replace Faulty Switch (If applicable)

   If multimeter testing proves the switch is dead, carefully pry the faulty rocker switch from the side console (or unbolt the external fender switch). Disconnect the wiring pigtail, apply dielectric grease to the new switch connector, and snap the new switch into place.

   Replace the PTO Solenoid (If applicable)

   If the solenoid coil is shorted or open, locate the PTO control valve block. Disconnect the electrical harness. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid off, slide the new one on (ensuring any O-rings are properly seated), and secure it.

   Repair Wiring

   If the harness is damaged, cut out the damaged section and splice in new wire using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) butt connectors.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.1E code from the Hitch ECU. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement safely.
